Tyrannosauridae was a family of tyrannosaurids from the Late Cretaceous Period that contained the largest members of the Superfamily Tyrannosauroidea , including the type Genus Tyrannosaurus . These tyrannosaurus, descended from more basal tyrannosaurs, were generally the top predators of their ecosystems. The members of the family were all large Theropods. Smaller genera, such as Alioramus measured 5-6 meters (16-20 feet) long, where as genera like Tarbosaurus and Tyrannosaurus measured 12 meters (39 feet) and 13 meters (42 feet) respectively. In the middle were mid-sized members of the family, such as Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus measuring between 8-10 meters (26-33 feet). Undoubtedly, these were some of the largest theropods ever to walk the Earth and the largest family of tyrannosaurs.
