Promexyele was a genus of Chimera-like cartilaginous fish that lived during the Carboniferous Period , about 300 million years ago. This little known shark-like fish belonged to a group known as iniopterygians. Promexyele had extremly large pectoral fins like a modern day lionfish. The function of the fins are unknown, although, speculated to have functioned like flying fishes' fins, allowing this bizarre creature to glide above the water's surface.
