†Kronosaurus

Species:

†K. queenslandicus (type)

†K. boyacensis

Kronosaurus was a large genus of pliosaur found in the Late Cretaceous around the seas of Australia.

Size Issue[]

Initial size estimates had put the length of K. queenslandicus at about 12.8 meters (43 feet). However, studies comparing Kronosaurus specimens to other pliosaurs suggests that this estimate was an over-estimate. A more accurate estimate to the length is 9–10 meters (30–33 feet).

The teeth of Kronosaurus are quite large in length, growing from 7 cm to 30 cm long! However, they lack carinae cutting edges and the trihedral facets of the comparable Liopleurodon and Pliosaurus teeth.

Diet[]

Kronosaurus is believed to have fed on long-necked plesiosaurs, such as Woolungasaurus, and other marine creatures. It was likely apex predator of its time.
